Hillary for America
producer - original content
Working on the Hillary for America campaign changed my life. Being a Producer on the video team where I had a non-traditional role in which I would pitch and produce original content ideas served as an example on how to reach different audiences in politics and exposed me to people who continue to mentor and uplift me. It’s a tie between the Pusha T and Tim Kaine rally and the Colored Girls story as my favorite. Both of these concepts were challenging to get through, but when they did each idea took on a life of its own. We reached over 100 new platforms our campaign had not been featured on before and had 1 Billion plus views just between these two concepts.
During my time on the campaign I started our Filmmakers for Hillary club in an effort to be inclusive of our creative community who wanted to serve our shared goal of electing Hillary Clinton for President. This collaborative group was organized by my friend Tanya Selvaratnam so they could be completely independent from the campaign and create the content they wanted to see, but was not in our lane. This proved there are so many creative ways to engage with people as long as you can organize them. Politics boils down to organizing at it’s core and I fell in love with the gritty, competitive, passion filled nature of this field.
As a young Black woman, my ideas naturally engage with young Black voters and I have been motivated ever since 2016 to contribute my storytelling, strategy and galvanizing skills towards charging up the people to get involved and to vote.
