VA For the People was an idea born out of the Something in the Water Music Festival in Virginia that was brought to the area through Pharrell Williams. This initiative included creatives and servant leaders plus the local community who are all passionate about Virginia. We realized that to create an inclusive, equitable community we need all voices to be heard at the ballot box. We registered thousands of voters and activated numerous voices around the community through our programming and content. We set an example of how to be engaged politically and also have fun and connect with your community at the same time. VA for the people received an honorable mention for world-changing ideas in art & design in Fast company Magazine.
