African Diaspora

African Diaspora

social impact and thought leadership

I first visited the country of Niger in West Africa in 2012 and helped start a local radio and television station that has shown significant growth since. I returned to the country in 2014 with a grant from the US Embassy to expand the station's reach by distributing solar-powered radios to local villages. I also hosted and conducted media workshops for local women journalists. Additionally, I was asked to give a speech at the US Embassy of Niger about the power of social media, content and storytelling.

I went on to create the Global Media Project, which aims to close the digital divide and reclaim our stories across the African Diaspora. My team and I hosted media clinics in Soweto and trained others to do the same so the work continues.
